Wrap of Crawl for the Cure: Ethermeet 2024 – many apologies

Hello all! It has been a while since I’ve communicated and I will quickly apologize. I have to admit the been very “distracted” with current state of things in the U.S. and it has taken more of a toll on my being than I would like. I did take some personal time for myself for self-reflection in life and work in the downtime. It has taken me a while to get back to the Crawl, but your Xcrawl DJs Jim Meyers and Keith Nelson have been getting the game ready for Gamehole Con 2025 – Xcrawl 4 the Cure! I am sorry that my delay has resulted closing out Ethermeet this late. If you could forgive me, I would appreciate your kindness. Thank you!

We do have some great news! Our donations total expanded thanks to additional donations from Pete Garanacis of Dark Nebula Games ($100) and Jim Skach and the crew from Limiting Factor Games (DynaMaps!) ($200)! These generous donations in addition to our artwork proceeds kicked it up our Ethermeet ending total near $4,000!  To make sure we made this milestone, I kicked in a bit more for “interest” on the delay of payment in February to the American Cancer Society,  making the late donations up to $425. This brought our total for the Ethermeet event to $4,016 – we hit the $4,000 mark and beyond! (https://crawlforthecure.net/wpcftc/?page_id=2083) THANK YOU, ALL for this tremendous help to the ACS!  That puts our 5-year total to $27,595.95, which, gauging by historical contributions, should set our passing of the $30K mark at XCrawl 4 the Cure 2025 at Gamehole! Very exciting!

I do bring news of awesome things which progressed and are coming to the Crawl for the Cure inspired by your contributions!:

  1. The portrait of our dear friend Aaron Koelman painted through the eyes and talents of Doug Kovacs has been completed, and we have delivered it Aaron’s wife Bridget and son Aleric. It is a thing of beauty, and we thank Doug Kovacs for preserving the majesty of Aaron in his art forever. Bridget will bring the framed artwork to Gamehole Con, so everybody and see it live!
  2. We have sent the Thanatar sketch (Jennell Jaquays’ character portrait, transforming from magic-user to dragon!) by Nate Marcel to Jennell’s partner, Rebecca!  It’s a stunning artwork, and we’re very happy to have it passed to her hands!
  3. The Treasure Room – look forward to seeing Aaron’s portrait, other commissioned artworks and gaming material from Bob Brinkman and other Crawl work from our events being added to our upcoming Treasure Room website to share with the community!  This will take some work, but we hope to unveil this to you in the near future!
  4. The Jerry Stefek Memorial Tokens for Ethermeet have been sitting in Welch Manse for way too long! We will be sending these out to donors soon!  I am so sorry for the delay!

Don’t forget – our next event will be The Jerry Stefek Memorial Xcrawl 4 the Cure Gamehole Con 2025! Bring your 0-level candidates to gain glory and fame in the Imperial Death Sport of the North American Empire at Gamehole Con in October! Xcrawl has been hijacked by the evil demon Mammon and his minions, as the gods of the Pantheon have turned their backs on the honored competition. Your crawlers will conquer the challenges of Xcrawl searching for the sacred patches to adorn Apollo’s battle vest to return his eyes and blessings to Xcrawl! Look for more information in the near future! One thing I can tell you is Goodman Games has provided us three hardcovers, all signed by multiple folks at Gencon 2025!: Xcrawl Classics Special Edition Rulebook, a Dungeon Denizens Special Edition, and a DCC Rulebook!  We’re excited to hand one of these books off to you for your incredible donations to the American Cancer Society!!! We can’t wait to see you at Gamehole Con 2025!

Thank you for making Ethermeet 2024 such a huge success!!!

Thank you!

DARK TOWER UPDATE – OCTOBER 6TH, 2024

Published to social media October 6, 2024.

Hello all! We are back with The Jerry Stefek Memorial Crawl for the Cure at Gamehole Con 11, October 19th, 2024 and we would love to see you there! We will be running the Goodman Games Original Adventures Reincarnated version of Jennell Jaquays’ legendary adventure, Dark Tower, as a “mega-funnel”. 0-level characters will be pitted against the full-octane adventure to fight to survive with their wits, luck and donations to the worthy cause of the American Cancer Society. ALL collected donations will, as always, be given to the American Cancer Society for research and assistance benefiting those and their loved ones in the hold of this terrifying disease.

The story will unfold on a 12’ x 12’, massive map of the Towers, similar to last year, which was amazingly fun and a sight to see. There are a myriad of opportunities for prizes and adventure that you won’t want to miss! Get your ticket to pick up your memorial token to play in the event at the link below! Can’t purchase a ticket online, yet or unsure of your schedule? Not a problem! Place your $10 donation at the Crawl for the Cure Atrium registration table and receive your token to play!

We are happy to announce our incredible sponsors providing you with raffle prizes (digital and physical!) for your generous donations. Our current list of sponsors (with hopefully more to come) are:

(See all of our incredible sponsors HERE and support their awesome endeavors!)

We would also like to announce a few special things that have been in the works that are dear to us we now present to you!

  • Please applaud Wayward Studios for creating an ex-Adventurer NPC in memory of our fond friend Aaron Koelman in their release, Out of Gnollwhere. They created the stout Innkeeper, Akaerrian Keenblade, imprinting Aaron upon the character so he is always within our hearts and on our bookshelves! Thank you, Wayward Studios, for the touching remembrance!
  • We also are commissioning Doug Kovacs to create a portrait of the Akaerrian Keenblade persona, so we can always have Aaron with us in spirit at every Crawl for the future! It won’t be done by Gamehole Con, unfortunately, however, Doug will give us a digital copy of his work so far so Aaron will be with us at Gamehole Con 2024 and beyond!
  • And more exciting news, Nate Marcel, of Umerica cover acclaim, has created an awesome original artwork of Jennell Jaquays as her favorite character – a female red dragon in the guise of a magic user! I’ve seen his initial artwork; it is an incredible rendition of Jennell transforming from a human to a red dragon, and it is stunning! A lucky raffle winner will take it home after the event! The special raffle will be open to all Con attendees, so tell your friends! Details link below!
  • We will be setting up a few memorials for our lost friends and fighting survivors this year: a picture memorial of those who have passed this year in our community, “Adventurers’ Rest”, and, Peter Garancis is putting together “The Pillar of Strength” honoring those lost to cancer and those who have survived the disease. A small donation will enable you to place ribbons in their honor. It will be an awesome sight and an incredible remembrance for our loved friends, bringing warm memories and hope! Well done, Peter!

We hope you’ll join the cause and help us smite cancer! Watch the website for updates as the event comes closer! Thank you for your support!

Thank you!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, CRAWLERS! MEMORIAL TOKENS AND PHYSICAL PRIZES ARE ON THEIR WAY!

Greetings in 2023, Crawlers! I apologize for the lag in responses – with Gamehole and Ethermeet events so close to each other for the first time, I had quite a bit to catch up on at home and work! The Memorial Tokens for Ethermeet 2022 are in and they look GREAT with the wonderfully blazing artwork of Nate Marcel! We hope to have these all out to you by next week, latest, along with all the physical prizes which are due you from the event! Thank you so much for your support!

Additionally, on December 19th, I sent the direct cash donations we had from some generous pre-donors to the American Cancer Society directly, so they could take the full effect of the funds! We also threw in a true-up of the 5% Tiltify fees that brought our total up to the full $4,185.55 for the ACS to use for its noble cause! We thank everyone for making this aid possible with their time and treasure to make Ethermeet a success!

Thank you for your support of The Jerry Stefek Memorial Crawl for the Cure: Ethermeet 2022! We’ll be getting all the donors a personal thank you in token goodness and finish up our physical mailings of prizes in the near future. Happy New Year, and we wish you all the best in 2023! We are blessed by this amazing community!

INCREDIBLE RESULTS FOR THE JERRY STEFEK MEMORIAL CRAWL FOR THE CURE: ETHERMEET 2022!

Hello all!  The Jerry Stefek Memorial Crawl for the Cure: Ethermeet 2022 concluded last night, and with a few more donations after hours, we are proud to announce with your help we were able to raise $4,185.55 for the American Cancer Society between Tiltify and $725 of pre-event donations!  That is an amazing feat, especially in these strange economic times. We thank you ALL for your generosity in making a real difference in people’s lives.  Thank you for your support of the event!

A special thanks to all of our sponsors (please visit them for your holiday shopping!) and to our Judges and players for providing their time and talents to entertain us with their sessions!

Thank you Judges:

  • Judge Edwin Nagy
  • Castle Keeper Chuck Cumbow
  • Judge Julian Bernick
  • Judge Luau Lou Hoefer (as Insanti Clawz!)

Thank you to Luau Lou for putting on an awesome show with this crew; Lou tapped the muse of the late night horror show to bring us the Final Admission Theater & ½ Price Oyster Bar, hosted by his alternate persona, Insanti Clawz! His players dressed for the part, and it was an incredible play of Julian Bernick’s Home for the Holideath! Thank you Final Admission Theater crew! The 2021 and 2022 sessions will be going up on YouTube for your enjoyment in the near future, be sure to catch up on what you missed, there were awesome sessions in both!

A very special thanks to Reid San Filippo and Shield of Faith Studios for his very generous $500 donation to the cause to put us over $1,000 more earned than last year’s Ethermeet! Thank you for your generous donation to the cause, Reid!

Finally, I wanted to thank Steve Seminerio and my amazing and tireless wife, Hazel Welch, for their countless hours of work helping me put these events together! It simply could not be done without them, so kudos goes to them for their work and for putting up with stressed me at the same time!

The top prizes were awarded, and we’re going to take a few days rest, then we’ll start getting the prizes out to you. Thank you all for your continuous support for The Jerry Stefek Memorial Crawl for the Cure in all of our events!  Happy Holidays, and thanks for making a difference in the lives of those in need!
